We are a small business seeking an experienced Workshop Assistant to support our stainless-steel surface treatment operations, specialising in pickling and passivation. This is a hands-on role where you'll oversee workflow, safety, quality, and productivity in a busy workshop environment. About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager and Workshop Supervisor, you'll be responsible for performing daily workshop activities, ensuring safe and compliant processing of stainless-steel components, and maintaining consistent quality control and delivery schedules. This role requires both practical technical ability and strong hands-on skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform pickling, passivation, rinsing and finishing
* Ensure correct chemical mixing, bath control, and process consistency (where applicable)
* Maintain high standards of quality assurance
* Teamwork and reporting
* Enforce safety and compliance procedures (handling acids, PPE, ventilation, spill response)
* Participate in toolbox talks, onboarding and training, complete daily checklists and tests
* Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in process, safety, and efficiency
* Ability to load and unload deliveries
* Mainly working in the yard with the forklift, receiving, unloading, and loading trucks
About You
You're a confident hands-on person with proven experience in stainless steel treatment, fabrication environments, or industrial surface treatment. You're safety-driven, organized, and capable of communicating with a team while maintaining high technical and quality standards.
Skills & Experience Required
* Demonstrated experience in stainless steel pickling and passivation (desirable)
* Minimum 4-5 years of experience in a workshop or industrial environment
* Strong understanding of chemical handling and safety procedures
* Minimum 3+ years experience in chemical handling and safety procedures
* Ability to interpret job specs, drawings, and quality requirements
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills
* Ability to operate overhead cranes and pressure washers
* Forklift licence (essential)
* White Card (desirable but not essential)
* Experience with QA systems and job documentation (advantage)
* Solution oriented
* Ability to follow strict procedures
* Team-oriented attitude
