About NEPKI

The National Energy Public Key Infrastructure (NEPKI) is a newly established, not-for-profit, collaborative industry initiative in Australia. NEPKI exists to enable secure, interoperable, and trusted digital identity and cryptographic services for the Australian energy sector, supporting a safe, reliable, and efficient transition to a renewable and distributed energy future.

NEPKI is authorised to provide PKI services for Consumer Energy Resources (CER) utilising the IEEE 2030.5 CSIP-AUS communication protocol. NEPKI does not directly operate PKI infrastructure; instead, it procures, governs, assures, and oversees PKI services delivered by an accredited third‑party provider acting as a trusted steward of national energy PKI capability.

About The Role

Established in 2025, NEPKI is seeking a CEO to oversee the launch of its first Public Key Infrastructure solution and to grow the organisation’s customers and membership.

The CEO will be NEPKI’s key spokesperson and a widely recognised advocate for the role of public key infrastructure in delivering the clean energy transition. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will lead a small, highly‑dedicated team and provide the strategic and operational leadership required to deliver on NEPKI’s mission.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership in a relevant domain, and demonstrated experience working with a wide variety of stakeholders to achieve great outcomes in the public interest. They will have demonstrated the capacity to lead an organisation, including management and business planning experience.

Key Responsibilities

* Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships including with funding organisations, customers, members, government, and other industry groups.
* Represent NEPKI publicly in media, key events, and industry forums and advocate for the role of a trusted certificate authority to enable secure, interoperable, and resilient systems that support the clean energy transition.
* Oversee organisational governance, risk management, compliance, and financial management. As a recently established organisation, this includes developing essential business processes and policies and maintaining these to ensure NEPKI complies with all legal and regulatory requirements regarding administrative and financial matters.
* Advise and inform the Board on all financial, governance, HR, performance, risk and other relevant matters, and attend/participate in appropriate board and subcommittee meetings as required.
* Successfully implement NEPKI’s strategy, including setting goals and monitoring organisation performance.
* Manage key contracts and relationships with NEPKI’s suppliers including ensuring effective delivery of the PKI service.
* Lead sustainable organisational growth, including the evolution of NEPKI’s commercial model and revenue streams.
* Manage NEPKI personnel including recruitment of a Chief Operating Officer, and cultivate a collaborative and high‑performance culture within NEPKI.

Skills & Experience

* Proven experience leading a high‑profile initiative or organisation.
* Ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders and navigate multiple points of view.
* People management experience and a collaborative empowering leadership style suited to a small, high‑performing team.
* Technical understanding and experience in domains relevant to NEPKI’s mission including energy and technology.
* Passion for Consumer Energy Resources and its role in delivering a clean energy future for Australia.
* Robust understanding of governance and compliance applicable to the non‑profit sector.
* Demonstrated ability to solve problems and work with others to achieve great outcomes in the public interest.
