Medical Laboratory Technician - Microbiology

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time
Position Classification: Technical Officer Grade 1/2
Remuneration: $60,223.98 - $88,284.57 per annum plus superannuation
Hours Per Week: 38
Location: Concord

About the opportunity

We are seeking a full time permanent Medical Laboratory Technician to work in a very busy Microbiology laboratory performing routine diagnostic Microbiology including Specialty Microbiology (Parasitology, Mycology, Mycobacteriology, Molecular and COVID-19 testing.

The laboratory has international and national Antibiotic unit commitments. The position requires participation on an after hours rotational roster with routine hours 8:30am - 5:00pm, Morning shift 6:00am - 2:30pm, Evening shift 2:30pm - 11:00pm, Sat-Sun shift 08:30am - 5:00pm.

Key Responsibilities:

* Perform a range of laboratory investigations and tests by applying established methods and procedures, as directed.
* Undertake other laboratory duties including preparation of materials and the maintenance of equipment in line with established laboratory processes, procedures and protocols.

Requirements:

* Degree in Laboratory Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a discipline relevant to the department, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems.
* Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations.

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand NSW Health Policy Directive PD2022_030 Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Diseases. All recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. All recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

All NSW Health workers are required to have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, as defined by NSW Health. Employees working in a clinical area or are required to attend clinical areas are considered category A. Category A positions are required to provide evidence of having received three doses of COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (TGA) and meet the requirements of the Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.

New to NSW Health Pathology?

The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a functional assessment prior to appointment.
