Strategic Growth & Partnerships Lead | Senior Recruitment Consultant at GWG Recruitment | Accounting, Finance & Risk (and occasionally a musician)
About the opportunity
If you've got the heart for the bush, the head for strategy, and the hands-on leadership style to bring it all together, this is the role for you
You might already be involved with campdraft & rodeo, or you may have had limited to no exposure to the sports or their community.
Either way, it is crucial that you bring objective, balanced leadership to the role that takes all perspectives into account when shaping the strategic road ahead.
Lead the strategic direction of the organisation and wider campdraft & rodeo communities into a new chapter of growth, engagement and popularity
Bring your strategic, commercial acumen to increase accessibility and participation
Reporting to the Board, we're looking for a dynamic, visionary Executive Officer to lead the organisation into its next chapter — someone who can balance governance with collaboration, change management & growth.
About the organisation
The Australian Bushmen's Campdraft & Rodeo Association (ABCRA) is the beating heart of Australian rural sport and culture. From grassroots events to national championships, they celebrate the courage, skill, and community spirit that define competitive campdrafting & rodeo events across the country.
What you'll do
Provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure ABCRA continues to promote, protect and grow the sports we love
Identify and develop new commercial opportunities (such as strategic partnerships, corporate sponsorships) to bolster resources and ensure the sport is accessible for all
Drive organisational performance and improvement, embedding a positive, professional, values-led culture
Strengthen governance controls & tools to ensure that any constitutional amendments are done so with a high level of probity, consideration and are fit for purpose
Represent ABCRA at AGMs and competitive events across the country
Partner with the Board of Directors to strengthen governance, risk management and long-term sustainability
Oversee day-to-day operations, including events, member services, communications and compliance
Build and nurture relationships across members, committees, sponsors, government and the wider community
Champion safety, integrity and fairness in every event and activity
About you - Essential
Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Project Management or equivalent
Strong capability in strategy, finance, governance and people and change leadership
Proven executive leadership experience, bonus points if it's within a member-based or sporting organisation
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills — able to unite diverse voices behind a shared vision and take people on the journey in respect to change and doing things differently
About You – Highly regarded
Knowledge of Campdraft, Rodeo & Rural Australia and the ability to connect and bond with its community
Practical understanding of animal welfare and workplace health and safety in sport or equestrian environments
Accreditation with the Australian Institute of Company Directors
Why you'll love it
Be part of an iconic, purpose-driven Australian organisation
Lead a talented team and a passionate community that truly values what they do
Live and work in Tamworth, the home of country sport and song
Travel around Australia and meet amazing, passionate people at various events & assemblies
Enjoy variety — from strategy meetings to event days — no two days are the same
If you're ready to roll up your sleeves, bring fresh thinking and lead ABCRA into a strong and sustainable future, we'd love to hear from you
Click apply and provide your CV & Cover Letter expanding on your motivation and interest in the role, what you see as areas of opportunity and where you can bring value.
