We are growing and looking for a Family Lawyer (4+ PAE) who is confident running their own files, building strong client relationships and contributing to a high-performing boutique practice. This role offers genuine autonomy, high-quality work and meaningful responsibility within a collaborative and supportive team.
The Role
You will manage a range of family law matters including:
* parenting disputes
* property settlements
* complex financial matters involving trusts, companies and business interests
* negotiation and mediation
* court proceedings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court
You will be expected to run your own files, manage client relationships and progress matters efficiently, while collaborating with colleagues where appropriate. Our matters are typically thoughtful, well-prepared and strategically managed, and we prioritise practical outcomes for clients rather than unnecessary conflict. This is a role suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership of their matters and delivering strong outcomes for clients.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and progress family law matters from commencement through to resolution
* Provide clear, strategic and practical advice to clients
* Draft affidavits, court documents and correspondence
* Prepare disclosure and evidence materials
* Brief counsel and prepare for hearings and mediations
* Conduct negotiations and attend mediations where appropriate
* Maintain organised files and accurate time recording
* Contribute positively to a collaborative team environment
About You
You are a capable and confident family lawyer who takes pride in producing high-quality work and delivering excellent client service. You communicate clearly, think strategically and are comfortable managing client relationships independently. You are organised, pragmatic and commercially aware, and you understand the importance of progressing matters efficiently while maintaining strong attention to detail. You take pride in producing well-structured affidavits and clear written advice, and you are comfortable taking responsibility for the progression of your matters. You are intelligent, solutions-focused and enjoy working with clients who value clear advice and practical outcomes. You enjoy working in a professional but down-to-earth environment where people take their work seriously while supporting one another.
Essential Requirements
* 4+ years post-admission experience practising in family law (may consider 3+ PAE in the event you have strong pre-existing paralegal experience)
* Ability to run family law matters independently
* Strong drafting skills (affidavits, court documents and correspondence)
* Good understanding of family law procedure and court processes
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple matters
* Experience in complex property matters involving companies, trusts or business interests
* Experience attending mediations or negotiations
* Strong client relationship and communication skills
* Commercial awareness and pragmatic approach to dispute resolution
