About the role
Rolling 6 month contract for a highly experienced Rust developer to build low‐latency, high‐throughput systems that support data‐driven products at scale. Working closely with data scientists, platform engineers, and product partners to turn models and ideas into reliable, production‐ready services.
Key responsibilities
* Build and optimise low‐latency services using Rust, with a strong emphasis on performance, safety, and maintainability.
* Productionise machine learning models by collaborating with data scientists and ensuring they run efficiently in real‐world environments.
* Develop and maintain data pipelines on AWS and Databricks, supporting both streaming and batch workloads.
* Implement strong observability practices, including monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning.
* Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to engineering best practices across the team.
* Work with stakeholders to translate product needs into technical solutions that scale.
* Continuously evaluate new tools and approaches to keep the ML platform modern, efficient, and cost‐effective.
Required qualifications
* A minimum of five years of professional engineering with experience building on AWS, Databricks, CI/CD Pipelines
* Deep experience with Rust, including writing high‐performance, low‐latency code.
* Strong understanding of AWS, including core services such as Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3,
* Hands‐on experience with Databricks or similar large‐scale data processing platforms.
* Solid grounding in machine learning fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, concurrency, and distributed systems.
* Experience deploying and maintaining production systems with strong reliability and observability standards.
Preferred skills
* Practical experience with machine learning workflows, including model training, evaluation, and deployment.
* Familiarity with MLOps tooling such as MLflow, SageMaker, or similar platforms.
* Experience with real‐time data technologies like Kafka or Kinesis.
* Comfort working in environments that value experimentation, iteration, and continuous improvement.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non‐technical colleagues.
