For over 50 years Central Australian Aboriginal Congress (Congress) has provided support and advocacy for Aboriginal people in the struggle for justice and equity. Since that time, Congress has expanded to become the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service in the Northern Territory, providing a comprehensive, holistic and culturally responsive primary health care service to Aboriginal people living in Alice Springs and nearby remote communities.

Congress is looking for an experienced and qualified Work Health and Safety Manager to elevate our safety systems and processes across our organisation. Leading a small team, this role will ensure adequate reporting on key risks and trends as well as developing strategies to proactively address issues moving forward in a legislatively compliant and consultative manner. This role is responsible for ensuring incidents are investigated thoroughly and ensuring appropriate corrective actions and applied, prioritised and implemented as well as working with staff across the organisation to develop a strong, preventative focused safety culture.

Our Work Health and Safety Manager will have strong communication skills and the ability to apply influence across the organisation, will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to get the best outcomes. You will have an excellent working knowledge of legislative requirements and experience in leading and conducting complex investigations. You'll also will have the sensitivity to lay out issues and problems to staff and executives and have a solution-oriented approach. You'll drive compliance across the organisation and escalate where appropriate to ensure outcomes. You'll also have a creative side and work to increase engagement across the workforce, increase participation and upskill staff and leaders in WHS requirements.

* Base Salary: $138,391 - $145,041 (p.a.)
* Total Effective Package: $169,204 - $176,787 (p.a.)*
* Full Time, Continuous contract

For this position you will require:
* Tertiary Qualifications in Work Health and Safety or significant relevant professional experience in a Work Health and Safety senior role.
* Qualifications and experience in workplace investigations, including complex investigations and WorkSafe NT interactions.
* Advanced working knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety Act, associated regulations and relevant Codes of Practice with the ability to interpret and apply legislative requirements in an operational context.
* Informed awareness of relevant WHS case law and prosecutions, including an understanding of enforcement approaches, legal precedent and the implications for organisational risk management.
* Expert capability in incident investigation methodology, governance and quality assurance, including the demonstrated ability to lead serious incident/accident and high-potential investigations.
* Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively to identify, engage and coordinate specialist technical expertise to support investigations, practices and performance standards where required.
* Highly developed communication and influence skills with the ability to persuade stakeholders at all levels and translate complex WHS issues into clear and practical advice, influence decisions and behaviours to improve risk management, safety outcomes and safety culture.
* Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills, including report writing, consultation, negotiation and the ability to conciliate and resolve issues effectively.
* Demonstrated experience in continuous quality improvement and change management practices that lead to best practice outcomes. The ability to innovate and adapt to changing organisational needs.
* Willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and work from remote locations.
