We are seeking a Senior Financial Accountant who will be instrumental in upholding the integrity of our financial reporting processes. This is a valuable opportunity to apply your technical expertise and collaborative approach within an organisation committed to the highest standards of excellence, while contributing to a dynamic, forward-thinking team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver accurate quarterly and annual financial statements for both WorkCover Queensland’s consolidated accounts and the WorkCover Employing Office’s standalone financial reports, ensuring full compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB).
- Prepare financial reporting packs for internal and external stakeholders and analyse variances and provide commentary on financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements and regulatory obligations.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors to support timely completion and resolution of audit queries.
- Provide technical accounting guidance and ensure policies are consistently applied.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.
- Lead the preparation of key financial reporting reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of items.
- Communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvements in financial reporting processes, internal controls, and reporting quality.
- Contribute to team goals by coaching and supporting colleagues and bringing a solutions-focused approach.
About You:
We’re looking for a finance professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team. You will bring:
- CA/CPA qualification and tertiary qualifications in accounting (mandatory).
- 5+ years’ experience in financial reporting, ideally within chartered or corporate settings (insurance/financial services experience highly regarded).
- Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, auditing requirements, and reporting frameworks.
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to quickly learn finance systems (TechnologyOne experience desirable).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across the business.
- A proactive mindset, with proven ability to identify improvements and deliver high-quality outcomes under deadlines.
