Following the retirement of our highly valued Medical Director, Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT (SHFPACT) is seeking an experienced sexual and reproductive health doctor to provide clinical leadership and effective clinical governance for the organization.
You will work collaboratively across the organisation, helping to build sector capacity, support our people, and strengthen service delivery.

SHFPACT is the ACT member of Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia (SRHA), a national federation of eight State and Territory family planning and sexual health organisations. SRHA is the Australian member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).
About the Role
The Medical Director provides clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team of medical, nursing, counselling, reception and administrative staff, ensuring patient-centred, high quality and safe sexual and reproductive health services.
· Clinical governance & risk: Lead clinical governance, oversee clinical risk management, and maintain compliance with legislation, regulations, and external accreditation standards.
· Service delivery: Provide direct clinical services (minimum one session per week), support other clinicians with medical management advice, and contribute to outreach clinical and education services.
· Safety & quality improvement: Oversee and use data to identify clinical priorities, implement and monitor quality improvement activities, and guide staff in safety and quality responsibilities.
· Training & supervision: Provide supervision and instruction for clinical placements and deliver clinical education for training courses, seminars, and workshops.
· Leadership & partnerships: Provide line management of Medical Officers, contribute to collaborative activities as part of the management team, and build strong stakeholder and community partnerships supporting service development and strategic planning.
· Child safety & workplace wellbeing: Uphold SHFPACT’s obligations as a Child Safe Organisation and promote workplace safety and psychosocial wellbeing.
About You
You are an experienced medical practitioner and inclusive leader, committed to pro-choice, client-centred, trauma informed and evidence-based sexual and reproductive healthcare. You bring strong clinical governance capability and can support a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality services.
Essential
· Medical degree and post-graduate training sufficient for unrestricted registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, with current registration and good standing with AHPRA and unconditional right to practise medicine.
· Membership or Fellowship (as appropriate) of a specialist medical college/body (e.g., RACGP, ACCRM, RACP, RANZCOG or similar).
· Completion of the SRHA Certificate in Sexual & Reproductive Health for Doctors/General Practitioners (or approved equivalent), and/or relevant post-graduate qualifications in sexual and reproductive health or a related field.
· Seven or more years’ clinical practice experience in an Australian general practice, hospital or primary healthcare setting, with substantial experience in sexual and reproductive health, family planning, women’s health, or related practice.
· Demonstrated capacity to provide clinical leadership and clinical management in a multidisciplinary environment, including experience leading clinical governance, safety and quality, risk management and quality improvement initiatives.
· Demonstrated understanding of the sexual and reproductive health needs of the community and priority populations, and the legislative/regulatory/standards framework relevant to clinical sexual and reproductive health services in the ACT.
· Commitment to a client-centred, prochoice, feminist practice framework, including trauma informed care and cultural safety.
· Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement capability across community, government, academic and sector partners.
Desirable
· Experience in a clinical management or leadership role in a primary healthcare, sexual health, or family planning environment.
Other requirements
· Availability for occasional after-hours and weekend work as required.
· Successful completion of a Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Check (ACT) and NDIS Worker Screening.
· Commitment to the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
· Current and sufficient independent medical indemnity cover appropriate to scope of practice.
