Our client, a Commonwealth government department with a national service delivery and policy mandate, is seeking an experienced finance professional to support its external reporting and financial compliance obligations.
Within the Finance and Procurement function, the Accounting, Estimates and Financial Compliance team oversees financial statements, month end processes, asset management and compliance reporting. The team also manages liaison with the Australian National Audit Office and ensures adherence to the Commonwealth Resource Management Framework.
This APS6 role exists to strengthen financial reporting capability and ensure the accuracy and integrity of statutory outputs.
What you will focus on
You will work closely with the Assistant Director to support the preparation of financial statements and manage core month end activities. You will help ensure accruals, reconciliations and reporting submissions are completed accurately and on time.
The role also involves:
* Supporting asset and lease accounting processes
* Submitting monthly and annual actuals through CBMS
* Assisting with implementation of new accounting standards
* Contributing to improvements in financial systems and processes
* Responding to audit requests and preparing documentation for ANAO reviews
* Drafting executive briefs and advisory material

You remain calm under pressure, manage competing priorities and contribute positively to team outcomes.
Your background
* Degree qualified in accounting or related field, mandatory
* CPA or CA qualified, or working towards completion, preferred
* Experience in financial accounting, reporting and compliance
* Understanding of public sector financial frameworks, desirable
* Demonstrated ability to prepare clear written advice
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills
* Baseline security clearance, or ability to obtain
