We are seeking an experienced and driven Head of Retail Merchandising to take ownership of our end-to-end in-store presentation strategy and lead the evolution of our retail footprint.
This is a key senior leadership role, reporting directly to the Directors and operating as a strategic lead for store design, layout, and visual merchandising across all locations in Australia and New Zealand.

Your Role
You will work closely with leadership and operational teams to ensure Sydney Tools stores lead the market and are visually compelling, commercially optimised, and consistently executed across the network.
This is a hands-on national role, based in our Sydney head office with travel across Australia to support store launches, refurbishments, and team coaching.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the national retail merchandising strategy across 100+ locations, aligning with commercial goals and store growth plans
* Oversee layout development and execution for new store builds, relocations and refurbishments
* Lead and maintain a high-performing team across head office, NSW, and other states
* Collaborate cross-functionally with Store Operations, Buying, Marketing, and Fit-Out / Property teams
* Establish and uphold national VM standards and store presentation guidelines
* Monitor and optimise store performance through a merchandising lens using sales and behavioural data
* Act as a key contributor to store growth planning, future concepts, and format innovation
What You Bring
* Proven experience in a senior national retail merchandising role – e.g. Head of Merchandising, National VM Manager, or similar
* Demonstrated success in leading large-scale merchandising functions across multi-site retail environments
* Strong capability in store layout planning, retail design, space management, and customer experience optimisation
* Commercial acumen with a deep understanding of how visual strategy impacts conversion, traffic flow, and profitability
* Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience managing geographically dispersed teams
* Hands-on, decisive, and comfortable working in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment
* Experience in the hardware, trade, tools, or large-format retail sectors is highly desirable
