What you'll be doing
The Senior Aboriginal Health Worker, Palliative Care position will work to ensure Aboriginal people approaching the
end of their lives, their carers and families, have access to appropriate palliative and end-of-life support across the
continuum of care, from diagnosis of a life limiting illness to death and into bereavement.
The role will provide non-clinical services including cultural and medical advocacy and will promote respectful and culturally appropriate palliative and end-of life-care for Aboriginal people, through working collaboratively with clinicians, community-based service providers, patients and families.
Selection Criteria
1. This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as an Aboriginal person and be accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
2. Relevant qualifications relating to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Care, including but not limited to Certificate IV in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Care and/or relevant experience.
3. Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people in relation to illness, grief and loss and Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing.
4. Demonstrated capacity to lead the development of culturally safe environments for Aboriginal patients and their families within a multidisciplinary team.
5. Demonstrated understanding of advance care planning and palliative care, and ability to
