About the Role
This position is available on a Part-Time or Casual basis, and we are looking for dedicated and skilled candidates who can demonstrate their valuable contributions to Weld East.
Working as part of the engineering and drafting team, this role is responsible for supporting the design, development, and delivery of fabrication projects from concept through to production. The Draftsperson / Engineer will create detailed and accurate technical drawings and schematics to support metal fabrication projects. This role involves translating conceptual designs into actionable plans that ensure the production of high-quality components and assemblies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Designing, developing, and modifying 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks and related software.
* Measuring and reverse engineering parts and components in the workshop and at client sites as required.
* Developing concept designs, detailed workshop drawings, and supporting documentation.
* Preparing and updating shop drawings, material take-offs, and purchasing lists.
* Collaborating with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to develop practical and efficient solutions.
* Managing document control to ensure drawings and revisions are accurate and up to date.
* Producing CNC nesting and toolpaths for workshop machinery where required.
* Conducting quality control checks on completed items as required.
* Supporting continuous improvement in design, safety processes.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Experience using CAD software, with SolidWorks experience highly regarded.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* High level of computer literacy and confidence working with technical systems.
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design and documentation.
* Experience in the steel fabrication industry will be highly regarded.
* A certificate, diploma, or degree in engineering, drafting, or a related field is desirable.
* Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards.
* Current C Class manual driver's licence.
