Primary objective
Provide specialist mental health assessment within a multi-tiered system of support framework to provide care and planning
information for client within the criminal justice system who have a mental illness.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Completes comprehensive assessments and intervention in accordance with practice standards to ensure ethical,

evidence based, and best practice standards are maintained within the framework of the Mental Health and Related
Services Act.

2. Enhance patient outcomes using evidence-based culturally appropriate interventions through the provision of high-
quality case management support, counselling, advocacy and networking with government and non-government
organisations.

3. Provide consultancy services in the form of written reports to agencies of the criminal justice system.
4. Maintain accurate and up to date clinical records through use of established information systems.
5. Participation in clinical supervision, under-graduate supervision, performance development planning and
6. continued education.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Recognised degree in Psychology with registration to practice as a Psychologist.
2. Specialist knowledge and demonstrated experience in forensic mental health, including expertise in assessment and

delivery of psychological interventions to support at an individual, group and system level. High degree of written skill
with ability to write complex health reports.

3. Knowledge of current issues, national standards and trends in the delivery of mental health care in Australia.
4. Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients, carers and other professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
5. High degree of interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

Desirable
1. Clinical experience in forensic mental health or in the criminal justice setting.
2. Post graduate qualifications in mental health or forensic mental health.
3. Current NT drivers licence or ability to obtain.
