The School of Special Educational Needs: Disability (SSEND) is seeking to establish a pool of dedicated, enthusiastic and dynamic Consulting Teachers from all phases of learning including Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary schooling for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

SSEND is an integral part of the Western Australian Department of Education's Statewide Services and provides support for students with disability. At SSEND we partner with schools and communities to deliver an effective, responsive and integrated service that supports students with additional needs to achieve their potential. Support is provided statewide through a Request for Assistance model that matches the needs of schools to the skill set of Consulting Teachers. SSEND have staff located across Western Australia.
Vacancies may arise in various locations across the state (two metropolitan and six regional hubs), aligned to the business needs of SSEND. As part of the application process, you will be able to identify preferred working locations. Experience of supporting students with disability in mainstream and/or education support settings is highly desired and should include knowledge in one or more of the following areas of SSEND targeted support: Autism, Physical Disability, Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), Disability High Support (DHS), Assistive Technology (AT) and/or Complex Communication Needs (CCN).
SSEND also oversee the training, support and development of the Specialist Learning Programs (SLPs). SLPs provide individualised, neurodiversity affirming support that fosters academic growth, social-emotional development, and holistic well-being. By addressing barriers to learning and engagement, SLPs support autistic students to achieve positive outcomes throughout their school journey. SSEND supports SLPs both systemically and operationally through individual and whole-school Requests for Assistance. For more information on these programs:

SSEND is a school that strives for excellence and is committed to building the capability of teachers and school-based staff within a culture of support to ensure every student with a disability is a successful student. Consulting Teachers collaborate with schools to provide a range of supports within these specialist areas including, but not limited to:
* Professional learning for staff on disability and inclusive education related topics.
* Advice and information on disability including policy, legislation, planning and reporting requirements.
* Consultation and collaboration with School Leadership Teams, Case Managers, Teachers and Education Assistants in meeting the educational needs of individual students with disability. This is through evidence informed strategies and interventions, including direct work with students, modelling of strategies, coaching of staff and provision of resources.
* Partnerships with school administrators in developing school-wide processes and guidelines to improve outcomes for students with disability.

The Role
Suitable applicants will ideally have a sound understanding of effective evidence informed instructional strategies for students with disability and/or SLDs. An understanding of models of consultancy is highly desirable as is the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment. The capacity to coach in dynamic and complex situations to finesse positive outcomes across various contexts is a key aspect of the role. Suitable applicants should be able to initiate and implement outcomes-based service delivery, using a strength-based approach aligned to the needs of regions, networks and schools.
SSEND provides an intensive induction program to ensure knowledge and skills specific to the position are consistent across service provision. A structured and rigorous performance development process ensures Consulting Teachers are provided opportunities to continue to expand their professional knowledge and practice through extensive targeted professional learning.
The role involves travelling to locations in local and regional areas, including state-wide travel with overnight stays and may include long distance driving, some of which may be in remote locations. Suitable applicants will be required to hold a current and valid "C" class driver's license.
Applicants for Consulting Teacher should consider the following workplace requirements:
* Have knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas including Autism, Physical Disability, Intellectual Disability, SLD, AT and/or CCN.
* Have confidence in implementing and modelling contextualised support and evidence-based strategies to schools within a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model.
* Provide coaching in order to build the capacity of school staff to implement and engage in evidence-based pedagogy at whole-school and individual student level.
* Be dynamic in the delivery of professional learning, and have the ability to work across a range of school contexts state-wide; and
* Have confidence in consulting with school leadership teams and key stakeholders, including interdisciplinary support providers, to promote inclusive practice at whole school and individual student levels.
