Senior Financial Operations Officer

About The Organisation:

About The Role:
Take a leading role in transforming financial operations as an APS6 Financial Operations Officer or EL1 Assistant Director. In this role, you will drive the in-house delivery of finance, payroll, and systems services, provide expert advice, lead strategic initiatives, and build a modern, efficient, and culturally safe financial operations function. You will also mentor staff and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure excellence in service delivery. Multiple positions are available, including General Finance Officer, Payroll Officer, and Data and Database Administration Officer.

Contract Type:
Permanent non-ongoing of 12 months + Extension or Section 26 Transfer
Location:
Canberra, ACT
Rate Bracket APS6:
$98,****** – $110,****** + Super (based on experience)
Rate Bracket EL1:
$126,****** – $143,****** + Super (based on experience)
Positions Available:
General Finance Officer, Payroll Officer, Data and Database Administration Officer
Requirements:
Must have a minimum Baseline clearance
Ability and willingness to undergo police check clearance

Responsibilities
Deliver accurate, timely financial operations services (Accounts, Payroll, Systems).
Support transition of financial operations to an in-house model.
Develop SOPs, service frameworks, and ensure compliance with legislation.
Provide expert financial advice to support operational objectives.
Manage accounts payable/receivable, vendor/customer data, payroll operations, and credit card programs.
Support audit readiness, risk management, and quality assurance.
Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.
Assist with strategic briefs, communication, change management, and policy development.
Foster a culturally safe workplace and inclusive team culture.
Experience & Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in Finance, HR, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated experience in financial operations, payroll, or systems management.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Proven ability to manage complex internal and external relationships.
Baseline security clearance (or higher).
