Our dedicated team of around 850 employees and more than 2,000 volunteers delivers vital services across education, employment, independence and social inclusion – from specialist allied health and employment support to assistive technology and Seeing Eye Dogs.
The opportunity
Vision Australia is seeking a number of new Non-Executive Directors to join the Board at a time of planned succession and continued organisational renewal. Following the retirement of three Directors at the October Annual General Meeting, these appointments will strengthen the Board’s collective capability and support effective governance during a period of evolution and opportunity.
Reporting to the Board Chair, Directors play a key role in providing strategic oversight, governance and stewardship of Vision Australia’s mission, values and long term sustainability. Working collaboratively with fellow Directors and the executive team, Directors contribute to informed decision making across strategy, performance, risk and organisational impact.
The Board is seeking to appoint Directors with expert capability in one or more of the following areas: clinical leadership within optical health and value based healthcare, broad commercial and transformation expertise, or deep human rights and advocacy experience. Across all appointments, Directors are expected to bring strong governance judgement, client centred thinking and a commitment to Vision Australia’s purpose and community impact.
About you
You are an experienced leader with the capability to contribute at Board level, either as a seasoned Director or as a well credentialed professional ready to step into a Non-Executive Director role. You bring expertise in clinical, commercial or human rights domains, with experience relevant to complex organisations operating in health, aged care, disability, service delivery or community sectors.
You demonstrate strong governance awareness, strategic thinking and the ability to ask thoughtful questions and constructively challenge management and peers. You are curious, open minded and respectful of diverse perspectives, and approach decision making with integrity and sound judgement.
Lived experience of blindness or low vision is highly desirable for at least one appointment. All candidates must demonstrate alignment with Vision Australia’s mission, values and culture, and a commitment to client centred leadership, governance excellence and ongoing contribution to the Board. Connections across government, philanthropic or wealth sectors will be highly regarded, as will the capacity to contribute meaningfully to Board and committee work.
