Overview
We’re looking for an experienced and driven Digital News Editor to lead and drive our news coverage on the SBS News website and app, and Apple News.
Responsibilities
- Lead and drive daily news coverage for SBS News’ written content on the website, app, and Apple News, steering the daily news agenda.
- Commission and guide daily news articles, explainers and news-adjacent features.
- Take the lead on breaking news operations for articles, live blogs and alerts; oversee forward planning for news coverage.
- Bring originality and creativity to daily coverage, grounded in editorial excellence, empathetic team leadership, audience insight and collaboration.
- Collaborate across SBS’s Video, Social, Audio and TV news teams as well as NITV and in-language teams to maximise the effectiveness of online stories.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the publishing strategy and use data and trends to shape daily decisions and future improvements.
- Be a people-first leader, creating an inclusive and supportive team culture and driving innovation in storytelling and digital publishing formats.
- Act as a senior editorial touchpoint and provide upward editorial referral to digital news teams in the absence of the Managing Editor (Digital); deputise to the Managing Editor as needed.
- Shape the future of SBS News’ digital offering and mentor a team of journalists providing news coverage for a diverse national audience.
