Overview
Praetorian Aeronautics is building counter drones, and we are seeking an experienced Remote Pilot to join the team. The remote pilot is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS). This role involves conducting a variety of test flights with fixed wing, multi rotor and Vtol aircraft all <25kg. The successful applicant must have a minimum of 2 years operating drones and be able to demonstrate a high level of regulatory knowledge in accordance with CASA requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct RPAS operations in accordance with CASA regulations, Praetorian Aeronautics Remote Operator’s Certificate (ReOC), and Operations manual.
- Plan and execute flight missions, including risk assessments, site surveys, and safety briefings.
- Perform both VLOS and EVLOS operations, with potential progression to BVLOS as authorised.
- Maintain strict adherence to CASA regulations, airspace requirements, and safety standards.
- Complete pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checklists.
- Operate a range of drone platforms and payloads.
- Monitor aircraft performance and assist in troubleshooting.
- Support testing and evaluation of new RPAS platforms.
- Maintain accurate flight logs and operational reports.
- Work closely with the Chief Remote Pilot, engineers, and project teams to deliver mission outcomes.
- Assist with training and mentoring of other remote pilots or operational staff as required.
Key Selection Criteria
- CASA-issued Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) for <25kg MR, fixed wing & Vtol*
- AROC
- Minimum 2 years of RPAS operational experience in commercial or defence environments.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct complex flight operations safely and efficiently.
- Strong understanding of CASA regulations, Part 101 MOS and CASR’s.
- Excellent situational awareness, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Competency in either Fly Freely or AVCRM mission planning software
- Current driver’s licence and ability to travel to remote locations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances (if applicable).
- Background in aviation, engineering, or geo-spatial sciences.
- Defence or high-risk operations experience.

- Additionally, the successful candidate must be eligible to obtain and hold an Australian Government security clearance. Eligibility requirements include Australian citizenship and the ability to meet security vetting criteria.

*Drone licensing can be arranged if the successful applicant does not hold all 3 requested licence types.
