We are seeking a highly experienced and creative Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a fast-growing, Australian-owned company known for providing world-class automation solutions and service to the manufacturing industry.
This is a crucial, high-impact role where you will design and deliver safe, efficient, and reliable automation and robotic handling systems. You will be involved in every stage, from conception to manufacturing and field support, and your efforts will directly contribute to exciting projects.
This is a full-time, on-site position located in Melbourne's West designing Automated Special Purpose Machinery reporting directly to the Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
You will play a leading role in the mechanical design process, ensuring technical integrity and compliance. Key responsibilities include:
* Designing mechanical product elements, including machined and fabricated components.
* Conducting engineering calculations to support product designs.
* Utilising 3D modelling, simulation, and 2D drafting tools.
* Leading and managing New Product Development (NPD) projects.
* Ensuring designs comply with local and international standards.
* Collaborating with multi-disciplinary projects, providing essential technical insights.
* Communicating design requirements effectively with suppliers.
* Implementing best practice design, documentation, verification, and manufacturing methods.
* Providing support for existing products and assisting with engineering investigations.
* Occasional site visits as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will possess:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field/relevant industry experience).
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design engineering.
* Proven experience in designing plant equipment & machinery is ESSENTIAL
* Expertise in 3D modelling software (Inventor or SolidWorks preferred).
* Experience with various manufacturing methods (machining, laser cutting, fabrication/welding, assembly).
* Experience in designing automation and robotic equipment (desired).
