KAC is based in South Hedland and is the registered Native Title Body Corporate of the Kariyarra People with a focus to provide native title and related services to support the Kariyarra People in managing their native title rights and interests.
KAC advocates for cultural integrity, economic development and community wellbeing for the Kariyarra people. KAC operates in partnership with the traditional owners, local Aboriginal communities, government and industry to support growth, self-determination and long-term sustainability for our members.
About the Role
KAC is seeking an experienced and values-driven General Manager to work closely with the CEO and lead KAC’s operations through a period of positive change, growth and community engagement.
The General Manager will be responsible for implementing executive priorities, guiding organisational performance, enhancing governance and ensuring service delivery reflects the culture and values of the Kariyarra people. This is a pivotal leadership role, requiring a trusted advisor to the CEO who brings both strategic insight and practical operational execution.
You will lead and oversee key projects and partnerships and be a key player in shaping the Corporation’s future direction, while ensuring that all activities are conducted in a safe, compliant and culturally respectful manner.
Key Responsibilities
∙ Implement operational plans aligned with the CEO’s strategic direction.
∙ Ensure effective financial, governance and risk management practices.
∙ Provide leadership and support to KAC staff and contractors.
∙ Uphold culturally sensitive practices in all areas of KAC’s work.
∙ Maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders, funding agents and the community. ∙ Lead operational change and continuous improvement.
∙ Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
∙ Promote workplace safety, staff wellbeing and community trust.
∙ Represent KAC with professionalism, transparency and cultural integrity.
∙ Demonstrated experience in a senior operational or general management role, preferably within Aboriginal organisations, community services, not-for-profits or similar environments.
∙ Proven ability to translate strategic direction into operational plans and drive effective implementation.
∙ Strong financial literacy, including budget preparation, financial oversight and reporting.
∙ Deep understanding of governance, risk and compliance responsibilities in complex environments.
∙ Exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate across cultures and sectors.
∙ Commitment to culturally respectful engagement and strong alignment with the values and aspirations of Aboriginal communities.
∙ Demonstrated self-starter with a hands-on, practical leadership style with proven ability to manage day to-day operations as well as longer-term initiatives.

∙ Strong communication, negotiation and reporting skills.
∙ High levels of personal integrity, ethical judgement and accountability.
∙ Current driver’s license (‘C’ class as minimum).
∙ National Police clearance, Working with Children check and details of 5 relevant professional referees.
∙ Direct Indigenous heritage, preferably knowledge of or raised in the region.
∙ Tertiary qualifications in business, public administration, community development, Indigenous leadership or a related field.
∙ Prior experience living or working in regional Australia.
∙ Familiarity with native title, land use agreements or cultural heritage management.
∙ Demonstrated experience in leading organisational change and service transformation.
∙ Knowledge of funding, grants, contract management and reporting to government or private sector bodies.
