The organisation works closely with irrigators, communities and government to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable water services in a variable and changing climate. Tasmanian Irrigation currently manages 21 irrigation schemes across the state, with an infrastructure portfolio valued at approximately $680 million, encompassing dams, pipelines, pump stations and associated assets that underpin agricultural and regional economic development.
The Opportunity
Tasmanian Irrigation is exclusively partnering with Searson Buck to appoint a Manager Water Delivery and Asset Performance to play a pivotal role in the day‐to‐day delivery of water across its statewide schemes. Reporting to the General Manager Customer and Operations, this role sits at the centre of operational performance, customer outcomes and system reliability. It offers the opportunity to lead complex operational services while contributing to the organisation's broader transition toward a financially sustainable, customer‐focused water delivery business.
The Role
The Manager Water Delivery and Asset Performance is responsible for leading the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of water across Tasmanian Irrigation's schemes. This includes oversight of day‐to‐day and seasonal water delivery, operational incident response and coordination of maintenance activities, ensuring service levels are met while optimising operational performance. The role works closely with asset management, engineering, water security, dam safety and commercial teams to deliver coordinated, whole‐of‐system outcomes. In addition to water delivery operations, the position oversees the operational performance of mini hydro and solar assets, supports water trading administration and provides operational input into the ongoing development of digital systems, control technologies and asset management frameworks. Expertise in the interpretation of asset and data to improve performance, enhance resilience and support long‐term service reliability are important to the success of this role.
The Person
You will bring demonstrated experience in operations management within water, utilities, infrastructure or another asset‐intensive environment and a demonstrated track record of leading operational teams, managing complex systems and responding effectively to incidents and service disruptions, while maintaining a clear customer focus. Your ability to work across multidisciplinary teams, engage constructively with customers and community stakeholders, and balance operational priorities will be critical to success in this role. You are a practical and confident leader with a sound understanding of safety, regulatory and compliance obligations, and the ability to foster a positive, accountable and safety‐focused culture. Experience in irrigation operations, regulated water markets, digital operational systems or asset management platforms will be highly regarded, along with tertiary qualifications in engineering, environmental science, agriculture, business or a related field.
The Offer
This role offers the opportunity to take on a key operational leadership position within an organisation that provides essential services to communities across Tasmania. You will work in a collaborative environment with scope to influence operational models, service delivery approaches and continuous improvement initiatives, while leading a committed team focused on reliable customer outcomes.
