What's the role?
Sky News Australia is looking for a Digital Reporter to write for one of Australia's largest news websites, SkyNews.com.au. The role requires strong news judgement and a drive to tell impactful stories across a diverse range of topics such as lifestyle, crime and politics.
Key Responsibilities
* Cover breaking news events with clean copy drafted while meeting tight deadlines.
* Pitch exclusive story ideas regularly and maintain a strong and diverse contact book.
* Edit and curate the SkyNews.com.au Homepage with the latest and best performing written articles.
* Use WordPress CMS to build stories, assign them to appropriate sections and liaise with social media teams.
* Understand the immediacy of the digital and television news environments and how best to leverage broadcast content for digital assets.
* Identify newsworthy opinion and interview content from television channels and ensure this is delivered to the online audience quickly and accurately.
* Determine what content works best on digital platforms and target content accordingly.
* Work well in a fast‐paced team environment, liaising with Digital Video and on‐air teams to turn around exclusive content quickly.
* Operate with limited supervision while meeting strict publishing targets.
* Be available for flexible hours, including irregular, unpredictable shifts and regular weekend work, as the newsroom operates 24 hours a day.
Who are you?
* A minimum of two years' experience in a busy newsroom.
* Ability to navigate complicated political discussions.
* A positive attitude with enthusiasm for sharing ideas and learning new skills.
* Ability to work unsupervised, meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
* Excellent time‐management and organisational skills.
* Experience in a busy newsroom environment is encouraged but not essential.
