Where you'll be working
South East Regional Hospital (SERH) is a newly built, architecturally designed hospital in Bega with expansive views of the Bega Valley. It is 429 kilometres South of Sydney, 228 kilometres from Canberra or 174 kilometres from the NSW snow fields. Nearby Merimbula (32 kilometres) offers a regional airport with daily flights to Sydney and Melbourne.
With many beautiful coastal towns, national parks, snow fields and beaches within a short driving distance, it is the perfect location for those looking for a family-friendly area with great work-life balance. There are many outdoor activities to enjoy including fishing, hiking, swimming, camping, walking, mountain biking and whale watching to just name a few.
What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care to patients in a complex clinical environment. Medical officers will work with permanent specialist physicians with expanded skills in gastroenterology, cardiology, and renal medicine.
You will be working in a 28-bed medical unit with telemetry facilities. The ICU is currently an open unit, the medical teams work with the intensivist to manage sick patients. This provides a great opportunity for clinical skill enhancement.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent) and previous experience in a medical department relevant to the position
- Demonstrated ability to complete rotations as allocated and required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services
- Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical setting
- Demonstrated ongoing commitment to further self-education and career development

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
