Swettenham Stud is a successful thoroughbred stud located at Nagambie in Victoria, presently we are accepting applicants for a full-time role of Horse Trainer – Wet/Dry Mare Manager.
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of industry best practice, with either international experience or a thorough understanding of the global trends of the thoroughbred industry
Duties will include:
Weanlings
* Provide early education and training of weanlings
* Monitoring the health of weanlings
* Liaison with veterinarian and management regarding any injuries and illnesses with weanlings
* Organising horses for the weekly farrier requirements
* Supervise and advise staff on the correct procedures for the handling and training of weanlings
Wet Mares
* Manage Wet Mares, Foaling and Nee-natal area as instructed by Stud Manager
* Work closely with multiple veterinarians to ensure the successful the wellbeing of mares and foals
* Manage movements of Wet Mares and foal.
* Undertake early training and education of foals
Dry Mares
* Responsible for the day-to-day care of dry mares at the commencement of the mares being under lights in July until the end of the breeding season.
* Organise movement of mares under lights according to the stage of their reproductive cycle
* Organisation of staff and mares through the crush daily.
* Ensuring the correct mares are available at the covering barn prior to their service
* Train new staff in the correct way to handle horses safely in a crush environment
The salary will be above award – $75,000 to $80,000 per annum.
