Our valued client, Axpo Gems, is located in Hallam, Victoria. The company represents an extension of this vision, utilising expertise in sourcing and supplying high-quality gemstones and fine jewellery.
As a Retail Buyer, you will be responsible for selecting and purchasing goods for resale in a retail establishment, ensuring that products meet quality standards and align with customer demand. The ideal candidate must have strong market knowledge, excellent negotiation skills, and a keen eye for trends, with a commitment to driving sales and product success.
The annual salary for this role is between $75,000 to $80,000.
Responsibilities:
1. Analysing sales data and inventory levels while reviewing trade, manufacturer, and market reports to stay updated on evolving market trends.
2. Engaging in negotiations with suppliers regarding purchasing, promotions, and supply agreements.
3. Developing and executing pricing, marketing, promotional, and display strategies to optimise product visibility and sales.
4. Collaborating with management on long-term business strategies and planning sales promotions.
5. Developing operational plans that align with seasonal demands and budgetary constraints.
6. Forecasting consumer trends and determining the quantity, style, and quality of products to be sourced.
7. Evaluating gems by assessing key factors such as colour, clarity, carat weight, and cut quality.
8. Inspecting and purchasing gems at auctions, gem dealers' stores, and directly from miners or suppliers.
9. Receiving gem samples from gemstone exchanges or suppliers for evaluation and assessment.
10. Visiting mines or gemstone cutting facilities to purchase rough stones, ensuring quality and pricing standards are met.
11. Conducting regular market research to understand shifts in consumer demand and trends in the gemstone industry.
12. Coordinating with suppliers and cutters to ensure timely delivery of polished gems to meet market needs.
Qualifications:
1. Should have a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in retail buying, purchasing, or procurement.
2. Must have experience in the gemstone, jewelry, or luxury goods sector is highly desirable.
3. Should possess strong knowledge of gem sourcing, supplier negotiations, and market trends are beneficial.
4. Applicants must have an AQF Certificate III with at least two (2) years of on-the-job training or an AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3).
5. Should have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience, which may be substituted for formal qualifications.
