The Opportunity
Nexl is looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer who is technically rigorous, highly autonomous, and AI-first in how they build. Someone who uses AI agents, structured prompting, and automated workflows as their primary development mode, not as a layer on top of traditional engineering.
You'll work within a cross-functional squad partnering closely with your Tech Lead, Product Manager, and shared Designer. The expectation is that you use AI to ship more, at higher quality, and faster than traditional engineering approaches allow. Deep fundamentals still matter (architecture, debugging, security, system thinking) as you'll need to direct AI effectively, make the decisions it cannot, and catch where it goes wrong.
This is a high ownership role for someone who thrives working autonomously, holds a high bar for what they ship, and wants to help define what elite AI-first engineering looks like at a fast-growing LegalTech company. The right person will be equally comfortable discussing architecture trade-offs, code quality, AI tool selection, and the impact their work has on the product and the customer.
What You'll Own & Do:
* Design and ship features end-to-end across React/TypeScript and Ruby on Rails or Python, from problem definition through architecture, implementation, testing, and release.
* Use Claude Code, Cursor, Devin, and similar agentic tools as a development partner, including structuring problems for AI execution, validating output, and maintaining architectural integrity across what gets shipped.
* Build AI agents and automated workflows that multiply output across the squad. You'll develop shared infrastructure that makes the whole team faster.
* Make the design and trade‐off decisions that AI cannot across system design, data modelling, security, technical debt, and long‐term platform health.
* Set and hold a high bar for AI‐generated code, reviewing for correctness, security, performance, and long‐term maintainability, rather than stopping at whether it runs.
* Own the reliability and scalability of what you ship and use AI to do it faster. Your work will lead to better observability, cleaner architecture, and fewer production incidents over time.
* Work closely with your Tech Lead, Product Manager, and Design across every initiative, bringing technical depth, AI‐native velocity, and a clear point of view on what to build and how.
* Help the engineers around you raise their AI game. Share what works (the tools, prompting approaches, workflows) to make the whole team faster.
What We're Looking For:
Must haves:
* Deep expertise in full‐stack software architecture, system design, data modelling, debugging, and security. These fundamentals are non‐negotiable.
* Strong proficiency in React + TypeScript and strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails or Python.
* You have fundamentally changed how you build. You use Claude Code, Cursor, Devin, or equivalent agentic tools as your primary development workflow and you can demonstrate meaningfully higher output velocity as a result.
* Ability to critically assess AI‐generated code for correctness, security, performance, and long‐term maintainability. You know when to push back, refactor, or start over.
* Experience designing and orchestrating multi‐agent systems, including decomposing work across autonomous agents, managing inter‐agent communication, and ensuring reliable, observable outcomes at the system level.
* Solid understanding of database design and optimisation (PostgreSQL, MongoDB) including indexing, query optimisation, and data modelling.
* Ability to take ownership, operate with minimal direction, and drive outcomes end‐to‐end.
* Understands security best practices and holds AI‐generated code to the same rigorous standard as hand‐written code.
* High ownership and accountability mindset, with a strong bias toward impact over activity.
Nice to haves:
* Experience with GraphQL, gRPC, or real‐time communication protocols (WebSockets).
* Experience in multi‐tenant, data‐heavy SaaS applications.
* Familiarity with Marketing Tech, CRM‐like systems, or workflow automation products.
* Knowledge of DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code, or cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure).
* Experience in LegalTech or Professional Services tech.
What Success Looks Like:
* You ship features at significantly higher velocity than traditional engineering workflows, and the quality and reliability of what you ship is high.
* AI agents and workflows you build are adopted by the squad, multiplying the team's collective output.
