Project Engineer – Johnson Controls
Location: Perth, Western Australia
About The Role
- Complete detailed engineering calculations and design for the development of refrigeration solutions.
- Preparing estimates for minor and major project work.
- Prepare tender submissions to client’s specifications and deadlines, including potential interstate and overseas work.
- Evaluate existing refrigeration plants and assist clients in modifying the system to meet their requirements.
- Market all services provided by GBI to customers, including consulting services, contract works, maintenance and parts supply.
- Project management including negotiation with suppliers, coordination of design, procurement of materials, and project administration. Manage project costs and ensure successful completion.
- Prepare risk assessments for all aspects of equipment and project work; enforce the company’s health and safety system.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety systems for the company and subcontractors.
- Apply knowledge of Australian & International Standards to ensure compliance for equipment and project work.
- Draft drawings for small projects and manufacturing using AutoCAD, Solid Works, and hand sketches.
- Conduct safety and engineering audits of refrigeration systems on site to various requirements, compiling client reports.
- Contribute to continuous development of internal systems to streamline engineering and project management functions.
- Complete administrative duties associated with engineering and project management operations.
- Supervise and assist with commissioning new plants as appropriate.
- Assist with delivery of training for internal and external technical people, including graduate engineers.
- Support the service department with engineering and small contracting support.
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others at the workplace.
- Cooperate with GBI management or other persons as necessary to enable compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Perform duties as assigned by Supervisor.
- All IP business rights remain with the company.
What We Look For
- An engineering qualification with industrial experience.
- Strong background in engineering design and/or project delivery for mechanical, electrical or process equipment, ideally with refrigeration or compression in heavy industry.
- Experience in process engineering design.
- Excellent skills in designing and developing industrial refrigeration, compression projects or rotating equipment.
- Experience in project management of mechanical, electrical or process projects delivering complex documentation and deliverables.
- Experience in heavy industry such as petrochemical or oil and gas/compression or similar.
- Effective handling of project reviews, conducting FAT and SAT.
- Ability to understand and interpret design intent around qualified specifications and drawings.
- Competent computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Project, Visio and AutoCAD (advantageous).
- Standardizing of deliverables including software, points list, documentation, etc.
- Setting up and maintaining a standard library of the above.
- Exceptional time‑management and communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Drive to succeed and continuous learning.
- Act as liaison between the customer and Johnson Controls, building long‑term relationships.
