The Opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Technician (Engineering) to join the Academic Support Unit (ASU). This exciting role provides hands‐on technical support for research and undergraduate engineering teaching, including laboratory classes, workshops, and practical projects. You will ensure safe, well‐equipped learning environments, assist students with technical tasks, and contribute to the maintenance and operation of workshop and laboratory equipment.
You will
* prepare, set up, and pack down laboratory classes, workshops, and practical activities, ensuring safe and effective learning environments for students;
* operate and maintain workshop machinery and equipment, fabricate components, fixtures, and prototypes to support teaching, research, and student projects; and
* liaise with academic staff and the technical team to deliver practical support, equipment inductions, and competency‐based training while ensuring compliance with WHS and risk management requirements.

You are adaptable, organised, and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail and a commitment to workplace safety.
You will possess
* a relevant trade qualification or equivalent combination of education, training, and practical experience;
* experience providing technical support in teaching, workshop, or laboratory environments, preferably at tertiary level;
* ability and willingness to learn new technologies, including 3D printing and emerging lab equipment;
* proven ability to safely operate and maintain workshop machinery and equipment;
* effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff and students;
* strong organisational skills to manage competing priorities;
* knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, including risk assessments and safe operating procedures; and
* current Class 'C' driver's licence.
