Primary objective
To provide professional protected area planning services, as part of a Territory-wide team within the Parks and Wildlife
Division.
Context statement
The Park Development and Strategic Projects Branch is accountable for the delivery of the Divisions business, financial,
human resource, legal, policy, planning, infrastructure programs and land administration functions across the Northern
Territory with a strong focus on continual evidence-based business improvement through the provision of governance
services, the development of continuous improvement frameworks, policies and standards and best practice business
management and quality assurance.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare and contribute to the preparation of statutory park management plans, policy, and high-level government
documents.
2. Support and manage strategic projects and programs relating to protected area management and development.
3. Professionally represent Parks and Wildlife and consult effectively with stakeholders in the management and planning of
parks, including government agencies, Aboriginal people and organisations, the tourism industry, community groups and
general public.
1. Operate within a strong safety culture and implement defined Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and
procedures while delivering services.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or equivalent qualification in protected area planning, environmental science, natural resource management or
similar.
2. Experience in environmental, natural resource management or protected area management planning or policy.
3. Ability to coordinate and prepare statutory management plans and other high-level documents.
4. Able to work effectively with internal stakeholders and experts including scientists, park managers and joint management
partners, and external stakeholders including Aboriginal organisations and the tourism industry.
5. Highly developed interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication, capacity to work effectively within
teams, demonstrated problem-solving and project leadership skills, self-motivated in working to agreed programs and
able to meet deadlines.
1. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. A Northern Territory driver's licence or the ability to obtain one and knowledge of relevant Northern Territory legislation.
