Your role: A Gap Year in the Air Force gives you an exciting taste of life in the ADF with just one year's commitment. You'll get paid for meaningful work, receive full Air Force training, and enjoy memorable experiences – unlike anything you'd encounter in a regular gap year. As an Aviation Support Technician in the Air Force, you'll work as part of the flightline technical team at airfields operating ADF aircraft. You'll be on the tarmac assisting and gaining insight into Air Force technical trades, performing servicing, ground handling and support duties. Your 12-month experience is divided into stages. First, you'll get paid to learn the military and job-specific skills you need for your role. Then you'll post to a unit to apply your newly learned skills and may have opportunities to travel around Australia to take part in domestic exercises and operations. Throughout your experience, you'll be supported by professional and enthusiastic Air Force personnel. After finishing your Gap Year program, you can choose to continue a career in the Air Force or you can use your new skills and experiences in future careers outside the ADF.
