Primary objective
Under the Direction of the Chief Correctional Officer Barkly Work Camp, identify eligible prisoners and provide access to voluntary and
paid employment opportunities, respond to employer's queries and issues in relation to the Prisoner Employment Program and manage a
caseload of prisoners involved in the program.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Implement the Prisoner Employment Program to help promote and support the successful reintegration of prisoners into the
community in line with NT Department of Correctional Services policies and procedures for the management of prisoners.
1. Establish and maintain records on the development and implementation status of initiatives that supports the internal and external
employment of offenders, particularly in relation to the Prisoner Employment Program.
3. Provide advice to the Barkly Work Camp Chief Correctional Officer and Alice Springs Correctional Centre Senior Management on
offender employment strategies and programs particularly in relation to employment, housing and re-socialisation activities.
4. Liaise and collaborate with Departmental officers, other Government agencies, Indigenous organisations, and service providers on
employment, housing and re-socialisation activities.
5. Establish and maintain relationships with Job Service Providers, Centrelink and other relevant organisations and service providers to
promote the Prisoner Employment Program.
6. Contribute to Department of Corrections achieving its Mission and key strategic outcomes.
1. Provide advice and support to Senior Correctional Management in relation to Industry Employment standards and procedures.
2. Assist with various administrative tasks as required at the workcamp including prisoner buys and associated processes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive working relationships
with clients and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of indigenous employment contemporary issues and demonstrated experience in the
employment field and industry expectations
1. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of contemporary policies and practices aimed at the successful reintegration of
offenders into the community.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team, provide accurate information by deadline and maintain
confidentiality.
5. Well organised with proven ability to set priorities, manage workloads and meet tight deadlines to achieve quality outcomes.
6. Ability to use computer systems, including word processing applications, spreadsheets and data bases.
Desirable
1. A demonstrated understanding of prison operations and the environmental context that the position works within.
