Senior Financial Accountant APS Level 6 Salary: $94,563 - $105,910 plus an additional 15.4% superannuation Location: Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra Position overview Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role supports the preparation of the annual financial statements and other statutory financial reporting for the Bureau. The role delivers monthly financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, tax management, general financial processing and provision of financial advice for the Bureau. Key elements of the role include month-end quality assurance and review process, developing accounting policies, monthly Business Activity Statements (BAS) and ensuring compliance with relevant government policies and accounting standards. Development and maintenance of mutually beneficial relationships across the Bureau are essential to building trust and confidence in the occupant of this role. The occupant will bring confident communications skills, expertise in Commonwealth government financial frameworks, deep understanding of financial reporting and financial controls. Other duties include but are not limited to: • Assistance with preparation of year end statutory accounts, notes and accompanying work papers • Preparation of monthly financial reports for the Bureau and the Bureau's special accounts including cashflow statements and associated balance sheet reconciliations. • Processing the monthly and yearly financial statements into the Central Budget Management System (CBMS) for department of finance reporting • Preparation of relevant tax returns, including lodgment of Business Activity Statements (BAS), Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) and Taxable payment annual report (TPAR) • Assistance in the development of accounting and interpretation of relevant policies and procedures. • Processing of month end journals and analysis and quality assurance and review of month-end results. • Management of the relationship with external auditors and addressing auditors' queries on time. • Assisting in process improvement and systems enhancement initiatives • Ensuring transactions and processes comply with accounting standards and Commonwealth government financial frameworks and assisting with compliance reporting as required • Complying with all Bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.
