System Architect
* Employment Type: Temporary Full time opportunity, until 1st week of October 2027
* Grade : Clerk 11/12
* Salary Range: $149,739 – $173,174 p.a. base salary +12% superannuation and annual leave loading
* Location: Flexible/hybrid working arrangements available across NSW, with some travel to Sydney metro locations required from time to time (negotiable)
The opportunity
Digital NSW is transforming to become the
trusted partner for accessible and secure digital platforms across the state.
We are seeking a System Architect to lead the design, evaluation, and
implementation of innovative solutions that meet business and customer
needs.
In this role, you will collaborate with solution
architects, data architects, service designers, and business analysts to define
and implement the future state design. The System Architect
will possess expertise across business, data, application, and technology
architecture domains, along with strong communication, stakeholder management,
and leadership skills.
You will also play a critical role in
managing the System Team, ensuring alignment across architecture practices and
fostering collaboration to deliver high-quality outcomes. This includes guiding
the team in applying architectural principles and maintaining consistency
across solutions.
Additionally, you will define and communicate the technical vision for the
Agile Release Train (ART), establish and maintain the architecture runway, and
identify technical enablers that enable delivery of strategic objectives.
Day to Day Responsibilities
* Lead and oversee the day-to-day activities
of the System Team, including prioritisation of work, coordination of
deliverables, and ensuring alignment with ART objectives and architectural
standards.
* Analyse and decompose business
requirements, non-functional requirements, models, and other artefacts to
inform both current and target state architecture.
* Develop solution architecture, integration
designs, and technical options to solve business problems, ensuring services
perform, scale, are reliable, and meet availability and redundancy
requirements.
* Work with the broader architecture team to
ensure designs align with the target state architecture, standards, principles,
and strategic direction.
* Manage multiple product streams, ensuring
iterative build processes are completed within the required sprint timelines.
* Lead the management of technical vision
setting for the Agile Release Train (ART), including defining and maintaining
the architecture runway, establishing enablers, and ensuring architectural
decisions support long-term business objectives.
* Provide architectural governance and
leadership, enabling teams to deliver solutions that align with enterprise
architecture and strategic goals.
* Act as a key liaison between business and
technical leadership, ensuring architectural decisions connect strategy to
execution and enable portfolio-level outcomes.
* Champion continuous architecture evolution,
balancing emergent design with intentional architecture to support agility and
innovation.
What you will bring to this role
* A foundation in systems development, with
an extensive experience in requirements management, system design, the system
development life cycle, and testing techniques.
* Strong solution modelling and design
skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to both business and
technical stakeholders and in building and maintaining stakeholder
relationships through effective communication and negotiation.
* Experience in developing and applying
solution patterns and standards, and the ability to adapt them to new and
innovative solutions.
* Knowledge of established and emerging
technologies, with the ability to incorporate these into both new and existing
solutions.
* Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor a
System Team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
* Proven experience in driving technical vision and architectural strategy within
a SAFe environment, including architecture runway planning and enabler
definition.
* Strong understanding of Lean-Agile
principles and their application in architecture governance, ensuring
flexibility while maintaining architectural integrity.
* Experience in connecting strategy to
execution, influencing stakeholders across ART and portfolio levels to align
technical decisions with business priorities.
Essential requirements
* TOGAF Level 8+ or SAFe Architect
certification or equivalent (highly desirable)
* Demonstrated experience in architectural
roles
* A tertiary qualification in IT, Systems or
Software Engineering, Computer Science Digital, Information Management, or
equivalent
* At least 5 years' experience as a System
Architect or equivalent
* SAFe Architect certification or equivalent
experience in architecture runway planning and enabler prioritisation is highly
desirable.
