The School of Alternative Learning Settings (SALS) is seeking to establish a pool of dedicated and enthusiastic Teachers to join the SALS Program located in the Pilbara Education Region for permanent and fixed-term, full-time and part-time vacancies that may arise during the 2025 school year and until the end of Term 1, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
About SALS
The SALS program was established in early 2019 to support students with complex and challenging behaviour through short-term, intensive intervention. Since 2022, it operates as a stand-alone school, delivering specialized activities and programs that promote social skills and self-regulation, with access to specialists like paediatricians, psychologists, and psychiatrists.
There are 13 SALS sites across Western Australia, each accommodating up to 10 students with individualized support programs focused on social skills, self-regulation, and culturally responsive, flexible learning environments co-designed with students.
The Role
We seek dedicated teachers eager for a challenge, capable of working collaboratively to develop the program and contribute to strategic planning and site development. Strong communication skills and experience in social and emotional curriculum development are essential, with knowledge of the circle of courage advantageous. Teachers will support individual learning plans within an integrated curriculum framework.
Applicants will work as part of a regional team in Karratha, with opportunities to work in other regional locations. The team comprises teachers, support officers, youth transition officers, and a psychologist. Experience in student engagement, transitions, case management, and trauma-informed practices is preferred, along with a valid WA driver’s license for student transport and travel for professional development.
Benefits
Employees enjoy competitive salaries, flexible work arrangements, professional development, and attractive leave provisions. Additional benefits include an attraction and retention incentive, superannuation contributions, school holiday leave, personal leave, subsidized accommodation, and free relocation. Teachers in Karratha in 2025 may receive an additional annual allowance.
