Primary Purpose & Responsibilities of Position
* As a Control Systems Engineer specialising in engineering, design, commissioning and maintenance of the Envirocart System, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the constructability, reliability and maintainability of equipment that will be operating across the globe, often in challenging environments. This is an office-based role in Bibra Lake; there may be requirements for site travel (national or international) from time to time
Key Responsibilities
:
Control System Software
Develop and implement CSS's proprietary control systems architecture into the next generation of Envirocart systems. Participate in inhouse design reviews and develop control system proposals within a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
Prototyping and Testing
:
Design, test, trouble shoot and commission the Envirocart system control systems and conduct rigorous testing in controlled environments. Analyse test data to improve reliability, constructability and maintainability whilst ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Materials Selection
:
Work with the engineering team to select appropriate materials for subsea applications, considering factors such as corrosion resistance, strength, and durability in extreme conditions
Subsea Systems Integration
:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate control systems components and coding into CSS's complete control systems, ensuring they function seamlessly and efficiently.
Innovation and Research
:
Stay updated on emerging control systems technologies and research trends, contributing to the company's innovation efforts. Identify and evaluate opportunities for technological advancements and cost savings.
Continuous Improvement.
:
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering environment to enhance constructability, reliability, maintainability, cost efficiency, quality and safety.
Documentation
:
Create and maintain detailed control systems documentation, including basis of design, control philosophy, communications architecture, functional specifications, cause and effect diagrams and testing and commissioning reports. The adherence to the engineering change management procedure and the writing of key decision notes (KDNs) is a key requirement.
Collaboration
:
Collaborate with multidisciplinary integrated teams which includes clients, consultants. and specialist contractor / supplier to deliver reliable, fit-for-purpose solutions which are safe and cost efficient.
Required Qualifications & Technical Competencies/Skills
Educational Background
:
Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics or Instrument & Control Automation is required. A master's degree, while not essential, is preferred for this role. Professional engineering registration (PE) would be considered as a plus.
Professional Experience
:
Minimum of 10 years relevant experience within engineering, project management or manufacturing environments. Marine experience would be considered as an advantage.
Technical Skills
:
Familiar with PLC structured text language based on IEC Part 3
Experience with Beckhoff PLCs or similar if it uses structured text
Experience with Ignition SCADA or similar systems
Experience with industrial communications protocols such as CANOpen, Ether CAT or Profinet
Ability to program using JAVA script would be an advantage
Experience with SolidWorks 3D design software would be an advantage
Experience in the marine sector with ROVs, robotics, subsea equipment, etc. would be an advantage
