The Opportunity

The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance is seeking an Academic Research Assistant to contribute to the ARC Discovery project Climate Vocabularies: New Methodologies for Music and Science Communication. This project is an inter-faculty collaboration that will develop an innovative framework for transdisciplinary music-science collaboration via new creative works. A focus is placed on how music can enhance environmental storytelling to create more compelling and emotionally resonant climate messaging, and how engagement with climate science can lead to innovations in music.

In this role, you will join the team to conduct advanced research both independently and collaboratively, producing high-quality publications and conference papers. You will develop ethics proposals, analyse data, review literature, and prepare research reports, while also contributing to research funding applications. You will attend project meetings, conferences, and seminars, and engage with stakeholders, supporting the administrative and professional activities essential to the success of the Climate Vocabularies research project.

As the successful candidate, you will possess demonstrated research expertise, including a strong track record of refereed publications and advanced skills in systematic literature review, data collection, and analysis of interviews and surveys. You will have proven problem-solving abilities, well-developed planning and organisational skills, and the capacity to produce clear, high-quality written and verbal communications. You will also demonstrate ethical awareness, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively, with proficiency in relevant software and a readiness to adopt new technologies.
