About The Team
Our pharmacists are integral to the clinical teams, engaging in unit and team-based care, ward rounds, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to achieve excellent patient care outcomes. There are opportunities to engage in Advanced Scopes of Practice, including credentialing and leading activities such as Partnered Pharmacist Medicine Charting, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Nicotine Replacement Therapy, and Analgesia de-escalation. The department has pioneered stewardship initiatives (anticoagulation, analgesic, psychotropic) adopted nationally.
About The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic hospital leader to join the Alfred Pharmacy Executive Leadership team. As the Quality Use of Medicines Director for pharmacy, you will lead Alfred Health’s strategies in medication safety, formulary management, medicines information and stewardship programs (Analgesic, Antimicrobial, Anticoagulant) in partnership with Lead Pharmacists in the directorate.
You will oversee safe, effective, and evidence-based medicine use across the organisation, aligning with national standards and accreditation requirements. You will supervise the operations of the Medication Safety and Drugs and Therapeutics Committees, in collaboration with the Formulary Manager and Medication Safety Lead. You will collaborate with clinical, operational and executive stakeholders to develop policies, protocols and strategies for optimal medicine use. A key focus is ensuring Alfred Health’s readiness for accreditation under Standard 4 of the Short Notice Accreditation Assessment Program (SNAAP). The Quality Use of Medicines Director will also oversee the operational services of the Pharmacy Department including dispensaries, aseptic service and the pharmacy clinical trials service, with support from the Deputy Director of Pharmacy Operations.

Qualifications & Experience Required
- Registered pharmacist in Australia
- Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy, public health, healthcare management or equivalent
- Extensive hospital pharmacy experience in a senior leadership role with contemporary hospital practice
- Experience in leadership related to clinical governance of medication use and safety (desirable)
- Experience in monitoring and evaluating strategies to improve medication use and safety (desirable)
- Experience in designing, delivering and evaluating stewardship programs (desirable)
- Advanced clinical practice or extensive experience across varied clinical environments (desirable)
- Research experience including undertaking, presenting and publishing findings (desirable)
- Proven track record in managing clinical staff and maintaining good clinician relationships (highly regarded)
- Experience in horizon scanning and developing innovative processes for local implementation (desirable)
