With the continued growth of our underground operation, we are seeking an experienced Underground Manager to lead the safe, efficient and compliant execution of underground mining at our Kalgoorlie operation.
This statutory leadership position plays a critical role in operational delivery, compliance, people leadership and driving continuous improvement across underground mining activities. Success in this role will come from strong technical competence, visible leadership, and the ability to develop teams and embed a culture of accountability and performance.
About the Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, the Underground Manager is accountable for the overall management, direction and statutory compliance of the Kal East underground mining operation. You will provide strong operational leadership while ensuring safety, production and cost targets are delivered in line with business objectives. This role requires a balanced approach across strategic planning, hands‐on operational leadership, contractor management, and extensive knowledge of the Western Australian mining regulations.
Key Focus Areas Safety, Leadership and Compliance
Lead a strong safety culture through visible, values‐driven leadership. Ensure full compliance with WHS (Mines) Regulations, statutory obligations and reporting. Drive risk management, critical control verification, emergency preparedness and statutory inspections.
Operational and Technical Delivery
Lead underground production, development and services to plan. Deliver production and cost outcomes aligned to mine schedules. Oversee mine planning, design and technical outputs in collaboration with technical services. Drive continuous improvement across mining systems, infrastructure, ventilation and backfill.
People, Culture & Stakeholder Management
Build capable underground leadership teams and succession pathways. Embed a disciplined, accountable and performance‐driven culture. Manage contractor performance and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
About You
You are a proven underground senior leader with strong technical capability and a hands‐on leadership style. You understand the discipline required to operate a safe, efficient and compliant underground mine, and have a demonstrated ability to build strong teams and systems through periods of growth.
You will bring:
* Western Australian First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency.
* Strong experience in the UG gold mining industry at an operational and planning level, exposed to a range of mining methods.
* Strong leadership experience in building and managing multidisciplinary employee/contractor workforces with an ability to champion behaviours that positively impact culture.
* Experience with operational readiness in a similarly sized company and/or an understanding of the challenges and opportunities, whilst growing an operation.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong decision‐making, and organisational skills with a mindset of looking at innovative ways to do things better.
* Current WA C Class Driver's License.
* Experience with startups, new mining fronts, operating in junior or mid‐tier environments (preferred).
