What can you expect in a day in this role?
During daylight hours you'll work with the guiding team, preparing for guest experiences, hosting selected activities, and helping create exceptional moments. You may share local wildlife knowledge, support coastal walks, or offer warm, thoughtful hospitality to guests.
Evening and Night Sky Experience
As evening approaches, you'll perform pre-tour checks, ensure the observatories are pristine, prepare equipment, and review the night's conditions. When guests arrive, you'll guide them through the astronomy experience, share stories of the cosmos, explain celestial features accessibly, and highlight the importance of preserving our dark skies.
What you'll bring
* Strong knowledge of and a genuine passion for astronomy
* Excellence in customer service, with confidence in a guest-facing environment
* Confident public speaking skills and the ability to Engage guests of all ages
* A university degree in astronomy or a related field (advantageous but not essential)
* Previous tour guiding experience (advantageous but not essential)
* A Tasmanian Medium Rigid driver's licence and Passenger Transport (PPV) accreditation – or a willingness to obtain them
* A current First Aid Certificate – or willingness to obtain one
Role commitments
This role requires someone who can commit for 12 months or longer, becoming a steady part of the guiding team throughout the year. During our busiest periods, you'll be on-site to support guest experiences when demand is highest, including summer and peak Dark Sky season in winter.
You'll typically work five days per week, with 38+ hours during peak periods. Shifts span afternoons, evenings, weekdays, and weekends, reflecting the natural rhythm of daylight adventures and night-sky experiences.
