Job Description
Townsville Charcoal Chicken is a well-known local takeaway and dine-in venue in Garbutt, loved for its charcoal-fired rotisserie chicken and satisfying comfort food. Using a charcoal oven to deliver a distinctive smoky flavour, we also serve a range of favourites including burgers, chips, salads, sauces/dips and all-day breakfast options, with convenient takeaway and online ordering. We are now seeking an experienced Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.
Cook – Townsville Charcoal Chicken (Garbutt, QLD) Key Responsibilities
* Preparing and cooking menu items across the service range (charcoal chicken, burgers, breakfast items, sides and salads) while maintaining consistent presentation and taste
* Monitoring and adjusting cooking equipment to ensure safe and accurate temperatures (including charcoal/rotisserie equipment, grills and fryers)
* Checking incoming ingredients and food supplies for freshness, quality and suitability before use, and rotating stock appropriately
* Seasoning and finishing food during preparation to match house recipes, including marinades, rubs, sauces and dressings
* Portioning meals correctly, plating/packing orders neatly, and adding appropriate sauces, gravies, garnishes and sides to meet our service standards
* Storing food safely using correct labelling, date rotation and temperature control to meet food safety requirements
* Preparing meals for customers with reasonable dietary needs where required (e.g., mild options, ingredient adjustments, or allergen-awareness practices)
* Assisting with menu planning and daily preparation schedules, including estimating food requirements to minimise wastage and support smooth service
* Guiding and supporting other kitchen staff with preparation methods, hygiene practices, and safe equipment use as required
* Maintaining a clean, organised workstation and contributing to overall kitchen cleanliness, including end-of-shift close-down procedures
Skills and Experience
* Minimum 1 year of relevant experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen (fast-paced takeaway/restaurant experience is highly regarded)
Required Qualifications
* AQF Certificate III (including at least two years of on-the-job training), or AQF Certificate IV in a relevant field.
Position Details
* Employment type: Full-time (typically 38 hours per week)
* Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 + superannuation per annum (depending on experience)
