About the Opportunity
Are you a forward-thinking engineer or project manager ready to shape the future of urban transport? We are seeking a Technical Project Manager – Fleet Innovation & Technology to lead high-profile heavy vehicle and sustainability initiatives. This isn't just about managing assets; it's about driving a major green transition. You will be the mastermind behind multi-million-dollar fleet projects, leading pioneering electric vehicle (EV) and hydrogen trials, deploying smart charging infrastructure, and accelerating workshop digitalization. If you thrive at the intersection of engineering discipline, advanced data analytics, and cutting-edge clean technology, this is your next career-defining move.
Key Responsibilities
* Green Innovation & Transition: Run pilots for EV and hydrogen heavy vehicles, model duty‐cycles, design charging infrastructure layouts, and build the business cases for Net Zero roadmaps.
* Technical Design & Procurement: Translate operational needs into advanced technical specifications for heavy vehicles (including side‐loader refuse trucks, sweepers, and civil plant) incorporating AI vision, 360° cameras, and ergonomic design. Lead end‐to‐end sourcing under NSW Local Government frameworks.
* Data Literacy & Telematics: Own the telematics/IoT roadmap, integrate heavy vehicle performance data into enterprise dashboards, and drive the digitalization of workshops via electronic job cards and automated defect workflows.
* Asset & Compliance Management: Apply life‐cycle costing (ISO 55000) to optimize total cost of ownership. Ensure rigid compliance with Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and NHVR Chain of Responsibility (CoR) frameworks.
What We Are Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will bring a unique blend of technical expertise and project delivery discipline.
Essential Criteria
* Qualifications: A tertiary degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automotive, Electrical), Project Management, or equivalent industry experience.
* Project Track Record: Proven experience delivering multi‐million‐dollar fleet, plant, or heavy utility infrastructure projects in safety‐critical environments.
* Regulatory Mastery: Robust understanding of HVNL/NHVR Chain of Responsibility, PBS, and Australian Design Rules (ADR).
* Procurement Expertise: Strong background drafting complex technical specifications and conducting weighted tender evaluations under NSW Local Government requirements.
* Systems & Data Literacy: Competence with telematics, fleet data analytics, and integrating workflows into enterprise software (e.g., TechnologyOne/CiAnywhere, CMMS).
* Licence: A current Australian Class C driver's licence.
Desirable Criteria
* Certified PRINCE2 Practitioner or PMP (PMBOK) status.
* Experience specifically dealing with Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCVs), sweepers, or civil plant.
* Prior hands‐on experience running EV/hydrogen commercial vehicle trials and securement of government sustainability grants.
* A Construction White Card.
What Success Looks Like (KPIs)
* Delivering 90% of project milestones within a strict 10% variance for budget and time.
* Maintaining an average fleet availability of 93% (95% for critical assets).
* Realizing a 5% reduction in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) across your project scopes within 24 months.
* Securing 100% timely closure on safety corrective actions with zero major CoR breaches.
