Gumala Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) works to alleviate poverty and promote self-determination for the Banjima, Yinhawangka and Nyiyaparli people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia.

GAC represents the Banjima, Yinhawangka and Nyiyaparli people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia. GAC was established in 1996 following negotiations with Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, to advocate for the collective interests of the Traditional Owners.
We are a membership-based organisation and serve around 2,000 Members across Western Australia, Australia and the world. We provide a unique and transformational approach to poverty alleviation in a socially complex environment that enabled economic, social and community developmental solutions for Traditional Owners.

THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an experienced early childhood educator to manage and grow our 3a (Abecedarian Approach Australia) early childhood education program. The 3a program is an evidence-based early childhood education program for children from birth to age five, designed to enhance cognitive, social and language development. It uses 4 key strategies – language, reading, enriched caregiving and learning games.
This position is based in the Pilbara region, with the option to be located in Hedland, Karratha, or Tom Price. Subsidised accommodation is available in Tom Price.
We currently have centres operating in Tom Price, Newman, Marble Bar, Wickham, Roebourne, Karratha and Hedland.
As the program Coordinator, you will be responsible for:
* Promoting program awareness throughout the communities and among Gumala members;
* Supervision and training of staff at learning centres;
* Maintaining accurate and complete records for all centres in relation to attendance, parent participation and progress of early learners;
* Ensuring adequate staffing of centres at all times, with particular emphasis on employment of Aboriginal people;
* Incorporating cultural, linguistic and familial values and beliefs into the education program; and developing culturally appropriate learning resources;
* Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, and completing reports for funding bodies, including providing financial acquittals;
* Regularly travelling between centres across the Pilbara.
As the 3a Program Coordinator, you will be required to have completed a Cert III or Diploma in Early Childhood education, and will be required to undergo 3a Practitioner Training.
Our preferred candidate will have strong demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people, particularly those living in remote communities, and an understanding of the cultural, political and social issues affecting Aboriginal people. Additionally, you will be required to have a current Working with Children Check and a current driver's licence (FWD ability essential).
This is a full‐time position offered as a 12‐month contract with the possibility of extension.
