Job Description
As a dental assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our dental practice. Your primary responsibility will be to assist dentists and other dental professionals with patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
* Monitor patient day sheets to prepare for patient lists as planned and accommodate emergency patients whenever possible.
* Coordinate with dentists to call patients, escort them to and from surgery, settle them in chairs, and prepare them for dentists.
* Liaise with reception regarding next appointments and/or payments.
Dental Assistance
Correct instrument and material setup for each patient is crucial. You will need to assist dentists with all aspects of clinical dentistry.
Procedure and technique in instrument transfer and mixing of materials must be followed correctly.
Data entry under dentist instruction, developing radiographs, maintaining infection control measures, and complying with surgery change-over procedures are also essential tasks.
Surgery Organisation
General cleaning and maintenance of surgery areas are critical to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
You will need to remove contaminated and non-contaminated waste, undertake routine maintenance of equipment and stock, and assist other dental assistants in SSU or other areas of the dental centre as required.
Sterile Supply Unit
Clean and prepare handpieces for sterilisation, process contaminated instruments, handpieces, and auxiliary items, and prepare and maintain ultrasonic cleaners and sterilisers.
Validate sterilisation cycles, maintain stock levels, perform regular surgery rounds to collect contaminated instruments, and report any fraudulent behaviour or activity.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Basic knowledge and experience in dental assisting are necessary.
Neat appearance and good personal hygiene are expected.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy is critical.
Initiative and common sense are also essential requirements.
