Overview
School counsellors are essential to the Department's School Counselling Service. They provide counselling and psychological assessment of students in order to complement and enhance the work of teachers, strengthening learning and wellbeing outcomes, and help families understand and manage their children's learning and mental health needs. The role offers a truly collegiate environment with opportunities for professional development and a chance to make an impact on children and young people. The successful candidate will be based at Scone Public School and provided with opportunities to work across the lifespan with both primary and high‐school aged students, collaborating with school communities, colleagues and outside agencies as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
* Provide individual counseling to students of primary and secondary school age.
* Conduct psychological assessments of children and young people, including case formulation and report writing.
* Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families and external agencies to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes.
* Participate in individual supervision with the Senior Psychologist and group supervision within the district counselling team.
* Engage in continuing professional development and maintain registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
* Experience in counselling using evidence‐based interventions with a demonstrated understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people.
* Experience in the psychological assessment of children and young people, including case formulation and report writing.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate with key stakeholders to improve the learning and wellbeing outcomes of children and young people, including those from diverse backgrounds and needs.
Conditions
* Be a registered or provisionally registered psychologist, or eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
* Have a valid unrestricted provisional or full driver's licence and be able to travel between worksites.
* The role is under the Teachers award (Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2024). Candidates must hold unconditional full approval to teach or be eligible to apply for such approval concurrently with this application.
