Position Summary
Reporting to the GM - Commercial SSN AUKUS, the Head of Commercial is accountable for leading the commercial teams responsible for management of contracts and commercial activities for the SSN AUKUS program of work. The Head of Commercial is responsible for the achievement of commercial outcomes, embedding sound practices within the commercial team and to deliver on contractual requirements. In doing this, the Head of Commercial will lead the development of tasking statements and negotiating contract change proposals, ensuring contracts entered into deliver on cost, timing, and resourcing commitments for SSN AUKUS and aligning commercial activities with ASC’s Strategy to assist ASC in meeting any relevant contractual deliverables.
Responsibilities
* Providing commercial advice relating to head contracts and other minor contracts where ASC is the contractor or service provider and not the principal or buyer.
* Providing general commercial advice to the Program (IPTs) and Corporate.
* Reviewing all deliverables for contractual and commercial compliance.
* Reviewing documents being delivered to the customer to ensure commercial and contractual compliance.
* Ensuring contractual outcomes and performance management is maintained.
* Maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
* Providing commercial advice relating to other agreements such as collaboration, partnering, MOUs, funding, scholarships, exchanges.
* Drafting, negotiating and managing commercial contracts, with support from Legal.
* Developing commercial strategies and solutions for program activities and outcomes.
Working with the SSN AUKUS Commercial leadership team, the position is required to maintain a strategic perspective of the SSN AUKUS Program and take into account a wide range of longer-term issues, opportunities and risks to ensure ongoing commercial success. The Head of Commercial provides leadership to the Commercial Team, ensuring team members are provided with direction and attainable yet challenging performance targets. A degree of flexibility is required in working hours is required to support the engagement with the Joint Partner. This role may also require periodic or regular overseas travel. This structure is transitional and subject to change aligned to the maturity of partnership arrangements with BAE systems.
Essential Qualifications
* Tertiary qualifications in Law, Business Management or related discipline.
Essential Skills And Experience
* A minimum of 10 years post graduate experience in a commercial, legal or business advisory role.
* Significant experience in managing and developing complex contracts including resolution of highly complex issues to achieve a positive commercially focused outcome.
* Extensive experience in drafting agreements and managing commercial risk.
* High quality writing skills, excellent time management and organization skills, the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with others.
* Demonstrable high level verbal and written communication skills.
* Autonomous, goal directed and capable of managing multiple priorities with limited direction.
* Proficient in both written and verbal communication and possess excellent negotiation and persuasion skills.
* Capable of building strong business relationships.
