Northam Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Student Support Officers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Northam SHS stands on the bank of the Avon River and has a proud and rich history of providing a comprehensive curriculum to students in Years 7-12 from the Northam and surrounding Wheatbelt districts students. With over 650 students, we are the largest school in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia.

The Role
The Student Support Officer works closely with school leadership staff to assist with systems and processes that support students, staff, and parents, ensuring a responsive and effective student support service. Suitable applicants will collaborate with staff, parents/guardians, and relevant community organisations, and may assist with school attendance strategies.

Suitable applicants will assist with early intervention support to individuals and/or groups of students in social emotional learning, co-regulation strategies, learning around behaviour, unconditional positive regard, restorative practice and strengths-based reflection. They will also support the provision of information for multi-disciplinary team meetings, case conferences and other relevant processes. They will maintain information and records, collate and prepare information required and assist with implementation strategies and student support programs.

The Student Support Officer should ideally have a history of reliability and relatability, building and maintaining relationships within the school community and with other key stakeholders, and under direction participate in crisis management and response duties as required to ensure the best outcomes for young people.

Eligibility
To work with us, you must:

* be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
* consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

* Demonstrated good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
* Demonstrated skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.
