Status: Part Time - 30 hrs per week
Department: Microbiology and Molecular
Laboratory: Hobart Pathology
About The Role:
* You will be required to perform set-up of all specimen types (swabs, urines, faeces, blood, sputum and other invasive/surgical specimens) for bacterial culture
* Perform Gram stain microscopy, manual cell counts (urine, CSF and other fluids) and faecal microscopy for parasites
* The operation of various molecular platforms for the detection of pathogens of interest
* Calibration and Maintenance of instruments and labware
* Result authorisation, customer service and troubleshooting
* The position will require you to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team
* The hours will vary to meet the operational & organisational requirements of the department and will include, shifts Monday to Sunday.
Selection Criteria:
1. A degree in Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent degree with relevant laboratory experience
2. Relevant experience in a bacteriology and/or molecular laboratory in Australian industry is preferred
3. Ability to act independently and within established guidelines, demonstrating professionalism, initiative, flexibility and sound judgement
4. Proficient, motivated and highly organised with great attention to detail
5. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
6. An understanding of quality control techniques
7. The ability to work under pressure
8. Must be able to live and work in Australia on a permanent basis at the time of application
