Transport Safety and Investigation Officer (005025)

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a permanent full-time flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight).


Duties

* Undertake education, compliance, enforcement, and investigation duties of light and public passenger vehicles (PPV) in accordance with relevant state and national legislations and vehicle standards.
* Educate and liaise with the public and industry on matters related to legislation and vehicle standards.
* Conduct identity checks on the Written off Vehicle Register (WOVR).
* Prepare reports on the physical condition of vehicles involved in serious and fatal collisions.
* Conduct inquiries, investigations, and interviews to support enforcement and prepare court documentation.
* Prepare evidence, reports, and recommendations for investigations and audits.
* Provide evidence in court regarding vehicle inspections for Tasmania Police or related prosecutions.
* Work with Tasmania Police during joint road safety operations, focusing on light vehicles and public passenger vehicles.
* Facilitate and coordinate the escort of oversize and over-mass loads, including negotiating with NHVR regarding compliance.

Note:

To progress from Transport Inspector Level 4 to Level 5, candidates must demonstrate competence through performance appraisal and complete Certificate IV in Government (Road Transport Compliance). Evidence of qualifications must be maintained throughout employment.

* Trade certificate in automotive mechanic or related field.

* Dishonesty crimes
* Serious traffic offences
