The Governance Support Officer plays a key role in supporting strong governance practices across the organisation. This position assists in compliance with relevant legislation, coordinates governance‑related projects and meetings, and provides administrative support to elected members, committees, and senior staff.
This role suits a highly organised, detail‑oriented professional who enjoys working in a dynamic environment and is passionate about supporting good governance.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare, coordinate, and distribute agendas and minutes for Council, Local Authority, and committee meetings
* Provide on‑site support for meeting logistics and travel arrangements
* Manage meeting schedules, catering, and action registers
* Ensure timely communication of outcomes to responsible staff
* Assist with statutory declarations, registers, disclosures, and other governance requirements
* Maintain governance databases, including correspondence, delegations, gifts, and interest registers
* Support elected members with training and development needs
* Maintain the organisation’s policy register and coordinate policy reviews
* Provide administrative support to the Governance Advisor across compliance and governance functions
* Register and distribute incoming correspondence promptly
* Support continuous improvement of records systems
* Apply appropriate retention and disposal schedules
* Assist with registers and insurance documentation within Corporate Services
Additional Duties
* Provide administrative support for insurance matters
* Provide coverage for the Governance Advisor during leave
* Ensure all governance documentation meets policy requirements
* Perform other tasks as directed by the Governance Advisor or CEO
Qualifications
* Certificate IV in a relevant field OR equivalent experience
* Experience improving systems, processes, and procedures
* Ability to interpret legislation, particularly local government legislation (desirable)
* Demonstrated ability to manage projects and specialised tasks independently
* Current Working with Children Check (Ochre Card)
* National Criminal History Check
* Current NT driver’s licence
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Understanding of governance frameworks and legislative compliance
* Strong organisational and communication skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders
* Commitment to safe work practices and ethical behaviour
